This year has seen me move on from Processing to OpenFrameworks. A few reasons drove that choice, one of which was I was having constant issues with Processing sketches not getting access to mics and cameras on MacOS. There are work arounds, but I was getting frustrated having to implement them every time I wanted to work on a project.
Another concern was performance. Processing is GPU first, so having a lot of objects on screen slows things down. OpenFrameworks has a native option for using GLSL, that speeds things up.
Right now, I’m working on recreating some of Processing sketches as a directed way to get comfortable in OpenFrameworks. I’ll be building out some compositions, as well as audio and motion reactive sketches.
Looking forward to re-establishing my code base and building out more complex interactions.
